2017 Mitsubishi Outlander vs 2017 Toyota 4Runner
The Outlander has a lot to offer that the competition can’t live up to, including an amazing price. See what we mean as we compare the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander vs 2017 Toyota 4Runner. We bet the Outlander will impress.
Before we get to the heart of this comparison, let’s talk about a few things the Outlander and 4Runner both have in common. They are both available as either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive crossovers, and they both offer V6 engines. Now looking at them side by side, the Toyota leaves something to be desired when it comes to style, but we leave the aesthetic decision to you. If you are already intrigued by the Outlander, then you should check out the new Outlander inventory that we have here at Libertyville Mitsubishi by clicking the link below.
2017 Mitsubishi Outlander |
VS | 2017 Toyota 4Runner |
$23,495 | Base MSRP | $34,210 |
25 City / 30 Highway | Fuel Economy (MPG) | 17 City / 21 Highway |
Right off the bat, there is an astounding difference in price. Where the Outlander comes in with a very reasonable base MSRP of $23,495, the 4Runner pushes the numbers to an uncomfortable level at over $10,000 more than the Outlander. Even the top trim Outlander is cheaper than that.
What do you get for all that money? Worse fuel economy in both the city and out on the highway, as well less features, but we will get into that in a moment, because we have another issue to tackle first, and that’s the warranty. The Outlander gives you a huge 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty that the Toyota just can't live up to.

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander |
VS | 2017 Toyota 4Runner |
Standard | Third Row Seats | Available |
Standard | Automatic Climate Control | Available |
When you choose the Outlander, you get the benefits of a third row. This means you’ll have seating for seven adults. In the Toyota 4Runner, the third row seat feels more like an afterthought. Not only does it not come standard on any trim level, but several trim levels including the top TRD trims, don’t even include it as an option.
What’s even more insane is that you have to go all the way up to the Limited trim in the 4Runner before you get automatic climate control, and that’s the only trim that this convenient feature is available on. The Outlander goes a simpler and more driver-focused route by providing automatic climate control across every trim level.
